Consumers will soon have the privilege of being able to pay a hefty premium for an unlocked version of the iPhone.
The rumor began last night when Chronic tweeted that 16GB and 32GB unlocked iPhones were coming to Apple stores this Wednesday. Tech publications such as 9to5Mac have found Chronic to be a "credible source of Apple rumors in the past," meaning that his tweet has officially created a buzz in the tech press about unlocked iPhones. |

Rumor has it Apple will start selling unlocked iPhone 4s in the U.S. starting Wednesday. It's unknown how much the alleged unlocked iPhones would cost, or what networks would run on. For those unfamiliar, selling unlocked iPhones is common outside the U.S., so the move would not be unprecedented. |

The Windows operating system for smartphones is expected to gain market share in the next few years thanks to Nokia, eventually leapfrogging the iOS system used on Apple's iPhone. But Google Android will remain atop the field.

The summer of Android super phones is heating up as Sprint and Motorola just announced two new Android phones, the Photon 4G and the Motorola Triumph. These are the first Motorola Android phones on Sprint.
At a press luncheon in New York this afternoon, the carrier announced that it will launch 10 more Motorola devices in 2011. The Photon 4G will be headed to Sprint while the Triumph will be exclusively for Virgin Mobile US customers. |

Microsoft Hopes to Draw Android Developers to Windows Phone |

Microsoft is trying to woo Android application developers, offering them help in porting applications to Windows Phone.
The company has released a Windows Phone API mapping tool for Android developers to help them find their way around the Windows Phone platform. Developers should think of the tool as being like a translation dictionary, Senior Technical Evangelist for Interoperability Jean-Christophe Cimetiere wrote in a blog post. |
